One small correction: DnD isnt a board game. Role playing gamers can, if they like, use maps to orient themselves within the unfolding story. But it’s not a necessity and it certainly isn’t much like board games at all.

The book sounds interesting, I’ll have to look it up. I’m glad you brought up Tolkien’s ideas on escapism from his Faerie Stories essay, though, as it more closely reflects my own lifelong experience with fantasy lit and entertainment.
