Thanks, Matt and Gary for the comments. I hope this interview, and the other entries in the series on sleep paralysis have been helpful for those experiencing these things. I also hope that it has inspired someone to research the influences of SP on horror and science fiction.

Thanks, John -- and also Mr. Proud -- for this interview. I'm about to dive into the book (I bought it several weeks before this interview appeared), and it promises to be a veritable feast.

I, too, have learned to lessen the horrific impact of my SP episodes a bit through the application of a bit of mindfulness, in the meditative sense, to the whole thing. After several years of the whole thing, somehow I found myself able to become self-aware enough during an episode to invoke the classic meditative attitude of non-judgmental witnessing. This proved to be a permanent shift. It doesn't actually lessen the horror, but it does make it seem semi-abstracted, in the same way that all phenomena are less immersive and dominating from that attitude of the awakened witness. Naturally, I have half-entertained ideas about the possible psychological-alchemical transmutation of the horror into something else, perhaps something life-ful and beneficial, via this approach.

Proud's book sounds very interesting, since I've experienced at least three night time visitations from a ghost, a demon and a black clad monklike figure. The books title, Dark Intrusions, sounds like an interracial porn site and made me laugh.
